Original MEL Script

Created: 2005

About

SavePlus was originally developed as a MEL script by Neal Singleton and released on Highend3D. The original script provided intelligent file versioning for Maya, automatically incrementing version numbers while preserving naming patterns.

The MEL script gained popularity in the Maya community for its ability to handle complex naming conventions and its simple workflow integration. It addressed a common pain point for 3D artists who needed better file versioning than Maya's native tools provided.

In 2024, we began the process of modernizing and expanding the tool by porting it to Python and enhancing its capabilities for Maya 2025. The current implementation adds a modern UI, version history tracking, backup systems, and many other features while maintaining the original script's core versioning intelligence.
